The Judges at the trial podium of the Far EastInternational Military Tribunal were listening to the testimonies.The jury was made up of eleven judges from the United States,Britain,France,China,the Soviet Union,the Netherlands,Canada,New Zealand,Australia,India and the Philippines.Sitting in the center was Dr.Mei Ruao from China.To his right was Sir William Webb from Australia who served as President of the Tribunal,and on his left was Major General for Justice I.M Zaryanov from the Soviet Union. |

Minnie Vautrin(1886-1941) was born in Illinois,USA.In 1912,She came to China and was appointed as Dean of the Department of Education in Jinling Women's College in 1919.When Nanjing was captured,she was one of the few women of the western countries who volunteered to stay in Nanjing.She was a menber of the International Red Cross Committee of Nanjing.She made the campus of Jinling Women's College a refugee camp specially for young women and children.At the maximum,the female refugee s staying in the college were over 9,000.In defiance of untold hardships and even risking her own life,she often went day and night in order to save and protect the women from the ravages of the Japanese soldiers.The refugees called her a "Living Goddess".

John Rabe(1882-1950) was born in Hamburg, Germany.He came to China in 1908 for business.He had been in Shengyang,Beijing,Tianjing and Shanghai.From 1931 to 1938,he was the representative of the German Simens Corporation in Nanjing.Being humanitational Committee for Nanjing Safety Zone during the period of Nanjing Massacre. He was elected Chairman of the Committee.He helped protect more than 200,000 lives of the Chinese refugees and was praised as "Schindler of Nanjing".
Selection from Rabe's Diaries ( 18 December 1937 ) At 6 o'clock in the evening when I came back home.I came cross some Japanese soldiers who had climbed over the courtyard wall .One of them had taken off his arm uniform and the leather belt,trying to rape a girl among the refugees.I came over to him and ordered him to get out through the wall over which he had climbed in.
